Miracles happen. Slow down the giddy pace of constant thinking and busyness. Breathe fully into the present moment with nowhere to be except now. Let time stop still and open your awareness to see differently from usual. You can experience miracles every day.
A miracle is “a shift in perception”, as Marianne Williamson says referring to A Course in Miracles.
Look at a tree. Is it just one of the same old trees that you always see?
Let go of its name and see it as if you had never seen a tree before. See it as a miracle of creation. Its thick and sturdy trunk, rising tall towards the sky and its halo of green leaves all the same shape, its spread of branches offering shade and the play of dancing light and shadow.
What else can you see when you choose to see differently?
Every flower is a miracle of design, color and astonishing imagination. When we really stop to smell the roses, we soften like the flower. Flowers were created for color to cheer our hearts, and to feed bees who create honey for us to enjoy. It takes way more than a fleeting second to grasp the awe-inspiring splendor of the natural world.
Catch the dog walker with six dogs, each with such a strikingly different look that sometimes you can burst out laughing. You can imagine the Creator saying, “Today I created dog. I had such a blast, chuckling to myself as I created hundreds of versions of the same original concept.”
You get the drift.
When you take the time to fully take in and appreciate the miracles of creation, the smiles, the infinite variety of humans who are in your life, you become fully present in your heart. You come out of your head and drop deeper into your body. Then it’s easier to let go of judgment and fears and experience who you truly are. You are now open to life and to everyday miracles.
Once you can see miracles every day, you discover that you can create miracles by shifting your perception.
Shifting your perception helps you to feel better. When you feel better about a challenging or upsetting situation, you have room to breathe and think clearly. You can be patient and give yourself space for the right next step to reveal itself.
Changing your state is a miracle in itself. It’s empowering. A great improvement on stewing in a brew of frustration and resentment.
Eventually you will have more of what you most deeply desire, because you made space for it.
You have to prepare your state of mind to perceive and receive miracles.
A few years ago, just before Christmas, I was in a tough spot financially. I was about to go to the grocery store, and felt an old familiar tightness in my solar plexus as I knew I had to cross a number of things of my list because I had other bills to pay.
Before going, I happened to find and start listening to one of Dr. Wayne Dyer’s talks. He spoke about the power of our minds. If you want prosperity, feel prosperous. Focus on gratitude for what you have.
I entered Whole Foods feeling rich and spacious. I enjoyed selecting my items and gratefully walked towards one of the checkouts. Then, I hesitated. I chose a different line from the first one I’d seen. The sales assistant checked through all my items, didn’t ask for my payment and gave me just over $12.
“What’s this?” I asked in amazement.
“The person before you gave $50 to pay for the next person in line’s purchases. That’s you.”
I was astounded. Tears of gratitude rushed into my eyes. “Me? I was the one!”
I knew that my listening to Dr. Dyer’s words of wisdom had made all the difference. You never know what may happen as a result of changing your state and shifting your perception.
You can experience miracles every day, simply by deciding to.
Miracles are like shooting stars. You have to be present and pay attention to spot them because they happen in the blink of an eye. That day in Whole Foods, I was very present and open. I caught that intuitive flash to stand in a different line, without knowing why. I was flexible enough to follow my instincts.
Celebrate the miracles you catch. You can experience miracles every day. Simply decide that miracles are a part of your life, which will make you feel better than ever, priming you for even more miracles.
