As one year rolls into another, dreams that still beckon, unfulfilled desires, intentions and goals drift up into our mind and heart. We long to see them fulfilled and feel glimmers of possibility shimmer in the silence between doubts. Honor your deepest desires; start with how you want to feel.
Feelings are a portal to having. Our dreams and deepest desires can seem like they are a long way from us, living in a misty future that may or may not happen.
It’s helpful to begin with what you don’t want, what’s not working out, what you’re fed up with.
From there, you can feel your longing for something else tugging at your heart. You feel the fire of your passion, which becomes your motivation to create something new.
Focus on how having that deep desire come true would make you feel. If you want to move in a new, more aligned direction in your career or business, how would you like to feel? Confident, appreciated, calmer, happy, spacious, clear, decisive, excited.
If you want new friends or a romantic partner, imagine how you would feel when you are with them. Or, you want to do your art and follow through with a passion project, imagine fitting it into your life and remember how good you feel when you are doing it and how wonderful and purposeful it would be to do more of it.
Anything that your heart longs for, imagine being there and bring it to life right here and now.
Your focus might be less on the outer, and more on inner shifts you want to make personally, such as replacing judgement with understanding, lack with abundance and doubt with decisions you can trust.
A friend of mine who had a particularly challenging and nerve-jangling time last year, breathes a sigh of relief when she names peace as the quality she is calling in for the new year. Peace and ease. She smiles as she imagines experiencing peace and ease in her body, mind and life. Feeling peace and ease aligns her with what she desires to manifest in her outer world, a loving, intimate relationship and devoting more time to her writing.
A new client of mine has heard her longing for help long enough, and now she is ready to act on her desire for support with attaining inner peace and calm to replace anxiety and grounded clarity to follow through with tasks that were overwhelming her.
Honor your deepest desires. When you start with how you want to feel and feel it, you align with your desires.
When you feel impatient or disgruntled because of what you don’t have in your life, you are not aligned with what you want. Your new client, boss or life partner won’t recognize you.
On the other hand, if you take care of your peace of mind, calming your nervous system and paying attention to your thoughts, guiding yourself towards a positive perspective, you align with your true self, who can easily manifest what you deeply desire.
Compassionate self care helps you to drop deeper to connect with your inner wisdom, the part of you that knows the way.
Life can be full of distractions. It’s like being on a train steaming forward. The train moves, even when you are still. We have to tend to our dreams, desires and goals while on the train, with all of life’s demands, challenges and surprises happening at the same time.
Your invitation is to choose your focus. Do you focus on the giddying speed of the train, the constant change, the moving objects, or do you focus on being still and dropping deeper into your heart and your wisdom?
It’s a balance. When you slow down and center yourself, you dip down into a nourishing well of replenishment. You connect with your inner knowing. You find perspective, which makes it easier to handle what is showing up and still make progress with creating what you long for.
