You wish you could find it easier to unwind when you feel stressed out and anxious. Your body feels like a coiled spring. You feel stuck in your head, winding through the same mental loop over and over again. You try to unwind and relax, but you’re still tense and caught up in your thoughts.

Sometimes work and life get too much. It seems like everything’s coming at you at once. All your usual ways of dealing with stress don’t seem to be working. The more you feel stressed and anxious, the longer it takes to unwind. Yet, you don’t have the time.

Take a really deep breath.

When you feel stressed out and anxious, the key to unwinding is to be willing to let go of two things:

Focus on Your Brilliance, Not Your Failings

May 22, 2019 by Nicola Walker

Person standing on beach at full sunrise.

Everyone is brilliant. Yet brilliance is easily obscured, undiscovered or forgotten. Focus on your brilliance. Train your mind to recognize and appreciate your brilliance rather than your failings.

What makes you brilliant?

Brilliance is about who you really are, without trying, doing or working out how.

Your brilliance is visible in the light that shines through you when your heart is open and your joy is sparked.

Your brilliance is your intuition, your innate knowing that guides you. This wise part of you shows you the way.

When you focus on showing up as your most brilliant self, the highest and best outcomes happen.

Feeling Stuck in the Same Old Patterns: How to Move Forward into Something New and Joyful

September 28, 2017 by Nicola Walker

Pink Rose Is that “got to do something about this now” feeling beating in your heart? When you are feeling stuck in the same old patterns, it’s important to remember that you CAN move forward.  You can leap out of your life into something new, vital and joyful once you know where to begin.

Most people begin with their frustration over feeling stuck in the same old patterns. The bigger your dreams and goals, the more you can get frustrated with feeling stuck in the same old patterns. It’s a vicious circle. What’s happening is that you are narrowing your focus in on what makes you irritated so much that you forget who you really are.

This may sound odd but you are not someone who is stuck. You are a brilliant, creative, powerful person who is on the verge of a breakthrough. No matter how you think of yourself, you fall short of seeing yourself and your abilities in their true light.

Feeling stuck in the same old patterns is an invitation to open up your heart and mind, instead of tightening them up with resistance to what is happening.

Feeling rushed: How to slow down and find your natural pace in work and life

September 14, 2017 by Nicola Walker

Swan in still water, with reflection, the opposite of feeling rushedDo you sometimes feel like your time is not your own? From the moment you wake, you are feeling rushed by your agenda full of everything you have to attend to, racing you through the minutes and the hours until you look at the clock in amazement and dismay. What happened? You long to fit in yoga, meditation, reflection time with your journal, or a run in the park, yet once again your day ran away from you.

Whether you work on-site at a job or work from home with a job or your own business, it’s important to find your rhythm for doing your work and taking care of your body and soul.

Some people are fast-paced and others are more slow-paced. Whatever type you are, if you consistently overstretch your limit of what you can comfortably do, you may either burn out, or experience physical and emotional symptoms indicating that you’re out of balance.

Fast-paced people may find that they don’t notice the warning signs when they are piling on too much and starting to burn out. Slow-paced people can often push themselves so they can keep up with other people’s standards for productivity while judging themselves for being the way they are.

Eventually, if you keep pushing yourself and feel rushed a lot of the time, you get so out of sync with yourself that you get tired, sick or even injure yourself. Often people injure ankles and knees, which are about fear of moving forward. Or, they have back or shoulder pain from carrying too much on their shoulders.

Slow down and move at your natural pace rather than letting the world dictate your pace. [Read more…] about Feeling rushed: How to slow down and find your natural pace in work and life

August 31, 2017 by Nicola Walker

Big tree roots - get to the root of feeling overwhelmed in your businessWhen you work alone, as a solopreneur or entrepreneur, without a team or support system, you can sometimes feel overwhelmed by all the actions you think you need to take each day. If feeling overwhelmed in your business is a pattern that you find yourself in often, the best approach is to find out what is beneath the overwhelm.

There is a lot of information around on the practical steps you can take to move past overwhelm into action. You may be familiar with several already. For example, breaking down each project into small steps and deciding which project you will begin with.

However, if prioritization and breaking down projects into small steps isn’t working for you, or would work if you could get past a deeper rooted paralysis, then take a ten minute break to dig deeper.

What to do in 10 minutes if you are feeling overwhelmed in your business or work
